Movie Notebook #10: "Hanna" (2011)

"Hanna" (2011) - Vivian Lee
Gorgeous and unconventional - I need to see this again to connect some of the plot points. Even with the missing plot points I couldn't take my eyes off the tiny airplane screen.

Movie Notebook #9: "The 39 Steps" (1935)

"The 39 Steps" (1939) - Vivian Lee
-also would like to add that when Richard Hannay takes in the strange spy woman "Ms. Smith" the situation plays out as bizarre but so natural. And every time he pulls the herring out of the otherwise empty freezer I laugh. I was also curious about the Hayes Code in regards to the scene where the two runaways (pretending to be newlyweds) have to share a room and she removes her stockings. I wonder how risqué that was considered.

Movie Notebook #8: "Pygmalion" (1938)

"Pygmalion" (1938) - Vivian Lee
More socially aware than the musical, but very bright and humorous.

Movie Notebook #5: "Les Diaboliques" (1955)

"Les Diaboliques" (1955) - Vivian Lee
Since my initial viewing, I have watched this movie three or four more times. I'd watch it again right now if it was on.

"The Little Princess" (1939) - Vivian Lee
Second or third time I've seen this. Cute movie, obviously.

Movie Notebook #3: "My Life As A Dog" (1985)

"My Life As A Dog" (1985) - Vivian Lee
Watched this on a whim and ended up entranced by it. This is one of those movies I cringed through, waiting for something terrible to happen but it never did. "It could have been worse." The boxing romance between the children was very endearing. Also lots of adorable mannerly little kids boxing.

Movie Notebook #2: "Idlewild" 2006

"Idlewild" (2006) - Vivian Lee
Very slick movie. So slick it was kinda flimsy. I liked the twist that "Angel Davenport" was an impostor and Macy Gray was pretty funny as the act Angel replaced. Hearing Speakerboxxx in the context of a film was kinda of awesome. "Movin Cool/ After Party" was a great song. My favorite "bit" was André's time piece he carried with him that came to life when he was along.

Movie Notebook #1: "Marie Antoinette" (2006)

"Marie Antoinette" (2006) - Vivian Lee
Last November, I bought a couple sketchbooks and decided to dedicated one specifically to cataloguing the movies I watch. Now that I finally got around to scanning everything here is entry number one, Sofia Coppola's "Marie Antoinette".
